Ukrainian Railway Company Plans a $1.8 Billion Purchase

On October 1 “Ukrzaliznytsia” submitted a tender in the Prozorro system for a purchase of 80 new suburban and regional trains by 2026

The press service of the national railway company informed that Ukrzaliznytsia starts "the largest-scale renewal of the fleet of suburban and regional trains over the whole period of Ukraine's independence."

The company announced as part of the deal 30 AC electric trains and 30 DC electric trains for suburban transportation will be purchased.

They will also acquire 20 AC electric trains for regional routes. The total purchase amount is more than $1.8 billion.

"Thus, 60 purchased trains will be part of City Express invest.com/investing-in-ukraine/starting-business-in-ukraine/start-a-project/" rel="dofollow">projects, and another 20 are planned to be launched on existing and new regional routes," the company representatives added.

It is reported that various world's top companies have been invited to partake in the tender Siemens, Stadler, Alstom, Pesa, Skoda and the Kryukov Carriage Works received invitations to bid.

The deadline for the submission of the bids is November 1, 2021, and the auctioning will take place on December 7. Potential participants also have an opportunity to get informed in more detail and stay in touch via Prozorro until October 20.

Cooperation with the selected bidder is designed for 5 years, therefore, train deliveries are planned to be made in batches until 2026.

"The development of technical requirements for electric trains were designed in a combined effort of both technical specialists of Ukrzaliznytsia and representatives of leading international and Ukrainian manufacturers.

For the review of technical requirements the specialists of Deutsche Bahn, DB Regio, who operate one of the largest regional rolling stock fleets in Europe, also joined the process within the framework of mutual cooperation," Ukrzaliznytsia added.

Ukrainian railway company mentioned that the fleet of
Ukrzaliznytsia commuter trains is timeworn by more than 90%, therefore, "it is crucial to renovate this segment of transportation for the sake of safety and comfort of passengers."
