It was reported by the official website of the company.
It is noted that this will become part of a large-scale renewal of rolling stock within the framework of the program Big Construction introduced by the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Next year we plan to replenish the fleet of grain carriers, which are in high demand in the freight market. We are already placing an order for our Paniutinsky car repair plant for the manufacture of 50 new models of grain carriages, which are entirely developed by the company. We are launching the mass production of these cars," said the head of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia Oleksandr Kamyshyn.
The first car of the kind, according to Kamyshyn — with the best technical characteristics for transporting grain, was manufactured and put into mass production in 2019.
This car is designed for bulk transportation of grain and other bulk food cargoes requiring protection from atmospheric precipitation. It has an increased volume of 120 m³, while the maximum volume of old grain carriers is 94 m³. The design speed of the car is up to 120 km/h. The car is certified and intended for operation on the railways of Ukraine and the member states of the rail transportation council.
At present, the total fleet of grain carriages of Ukrzaliznytsia is 11.4 thousand units. In the next seven years, it is planned to build and upgrade almost 15 thousand grain carriers, 3.6 thousand of the vehicles — at the enterprises of Ukrzaliznytsia.
The railway company also reported that in October 2021 it transported a record amount of grain. The average daily loading of grain cargo amounted to 131.4 thousand tons. This is the highest figure in the last 10 years.
It is worth remembering that on November 9, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a large-scale renewal of the railway as a new direction of the Big Construction program. It includes the plans to: electrify at least 500 km of tracks by 2024, expand the network of high-speed interregional communication Intercity +, implement a program to upgrade freight cars until 2028, build 500 new sleeping cars in the coming years and overhaul 150, purchase 20 diesel trains and 80 modern electric trains. From next year, it is planned to transfer passenger traffic to the management of Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting. Zelenskyy also noted that for the first time in 12 months, Ukrzaliznytsia became profitable.
