Ukrainian winemaking received strong international recognition at the Concours International de Lyon in France. The craft winery Lowkowo took two awards in one of the largest global competitions.
The contest in 2026 evaluated more than 10,000 samples from 58 countries in blind tastings. Lowkowo was the only Ukrainian winery among the winners, standing alongside producers from France, Italy, and Spain.
Gold went to Lowkowo Chardonnay Amphora 2025, which scored 91 out of 100 and received a special distinction as the best Ukrainian wine of the competition. The orange chardonnay is fermented and aged on skins in clay amphorae, creating a rich texture and complex aroma.
Silver was awarded to Lowkowo Chardonnay 2025 with 81 points. The classic white style highlights freshness, acidity, and citrus fruit notes, showing a different and more traditional profile.
The wines are produced in the village of Levkiv in Zhytomyr region. Vineyards were planted in 2018–2019 with local climate adaptation in mind, and production remains limited to a few thousand bottles per year. The result signals growing quality from a region not traditionally known for wine.
