The press service of Ukrzaliznytsia has already announced the start of the function in test mode. This decision ensured that women could use the trains comfortably and safely. The cost of "women's seats" will not differ from the cost of ordinary tickets. However, girls can thus avoid the company of men if there is such a desire: feel confident and safe in any kind and condition, feel comfortable during changing clothes, sleeping, etc.
In 2016, after a drunken man severely beat a female traveller in a joint compartment, Ukrainian Vadim Dohadin registered a petition on the parliamentary side about separate carriages for men and women. The petition received 25.000 votes, but parliament did not support it. On May 15, 2023, after a similar situation, a similar petition was again posted on the government's civil petition website, and in less than 2 days, it gained 23.000 votes. This time, Ukrzaliznytsia met Ukrainian women halfway before they adopted the corresponding bill.
"The security of Ukrainians – regardless of gender – is our fundamental priority, especially during a full-scale war. Our railway workers have carefully studied the world experience because women's coupes or cars exist in some Asian countries and have been tested in Europe," wrote Ukrzaliznytsia.
Such cars will be tested in real trains for intercity communication. In a few months, the carrier will decide on the scale of the introduction of separate coupes for women. The service will be available to women, transwomen, and mothers with children under 6 years of age of any sex.
In addition, Ukrzaliznytsia has already installed surveillance cameras, alarm buttons, and alarms in the compartment. The Ukrainian trains now also have patrol service.
