During his stay, Blinken is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
The discussions will focus on the latest battlefield developments, the impact of new US security and economic assistance, and the US's long-term commitments in security and other sectors. They will also cover ongoing efforts to support Ukraine's economic recovery.
A US official, speaking anonymously, stated that Blinken's visit aims to reassure Ukraine amidst challenging circumstances. "The visit is meant to send a strong message of reassurance to the Ukrainians, who are obviously in a very difficult situation," the official said. Blinken's discussions will emphasize that American aid is intended to bolster Ukrainian defenses and enable them to progressively take the initiative on the battlefield. This visit follows the recent trip by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in March.
