USA Extends “Uniting for Ukraine” Program

The US Department of homeland security decided to extend the provision of temporary protection status for Ukrainian citizens until 2025

The decision from August 18 will be valid until April 19, 2023. For the 1st time, the provision of protection was introduced through the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The American authorities have decided to continue providing shelter to Ukrainian refugees due to the continuation of Russian aggression and the lack of conditions in Ukraine that could facilitate the return of people home. US national security minister Alejandro Majorcas believes that it is not only dangerous to return to Ukraine because of the attacks but also because of the humanitarian crisis.

Therefore, refugees can apply for temporary protection and obtain work permits. We are talking about the student with an F-1 visa. They will be able to work by submitting a request. Getting a positive response, Ukrainians will be able to earn money, reduce the workload in the educational institution and keep a visa until 2025.

Since February 24, 2022, the American government has been helping Ukraine through the aftermath of the war. In addition to military, financial and humanitarian aid, the US provides temporary protection. Almost 26.000 citizens of Ukraine use this opportunity. As of August 16 2023, almost 167.000 refugees from Ukraine are also eligible for temporary protection.
