Vodafone Group and Vodafone Ukraine have announced the launch of the Kardesa submarine cable project, a high-capacity digital corridor linking Ukraine, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Georgia through the Black Sea.
Valued at more than €100 million, the project is designed to bypass Russia and provide a secure, independent data route between Europe and Asia.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation, the initiative marks a major step toward strengthening Ukraine’s digital resilience, deepening European connectivity, and expanding the country’s role in global data transit.
Strategic Importance
1. Digital Sovereignty and Security
The new cable system will significantly enhance the stability and redundancy of Ukraine’s communications infrastructure. By creating a direct, non-Russian route across the Black Sea, it will improve data security and reduce geopolitical risks in the region’s digital ecosystem.
