As reported on the London Honey Awards 2021 website, beekeepers from Ukraine won 1 bronze, 4 silver and 5 gold medals.
The jury evaluated the honey according to criteria such as visual appeal, aroma, texture and taste. International experts evaluating honey focused on the fact that honey was submitted to the competition without trademark and brand symbols, in identical glass containers. Thus, the experts avoided the factor of marketing bias.
Once again, a Ukrainian beekeeper from the Kharkiv region won the London competition. In 2021, Mykola Andoni received 2 gold medals. He said that the preparation for the competition lasted more than two months:
“The honey was sent there with the help of our embassy in London. I worked with them on how to deliver all the honey there, and then so that it was delivered to the organizers. They wrote letters so that honey could cross the border without obstacles, as it was for a competition. It was a long job.”
