PEPFAR to allocate financial aid to fight HIV and tuberculosis

On March 13, a planning meeting for COP23 PEPFAR for Ukraine began in Warsaw. The event always touches on the development of medicine to combat HIV and tuberculosis. It is attended by leaders in disease control, health alliance, CDC, USAID, UNAIDS, and PEPFAR. The Ukrainian is represented at a joint meeting by the Ministry of the health of Ukraine, the centre for public health, the national health service of Ukraine, and the Ministry of justice of Ukraine.

In 2023, representatives of Ukraine applied for funding for the development and implementation of HIV and tuberculosis programs in the country. Special attention was paid to counteracting diseases in the context of the war, the aggression of Russian soldiers, and the post-war period. The issue of financing Ukrainian medicine was also discussed.

As a result of the first days of the meeting, a deal was made with PEPFAR. According to the agreement, the organization is ready to provide funding for the fight against diseases. PEPFAR will provide Ukraine with $118 million. The 2-year funding is calculated for 2024-2025: $59.5 million for 2024 and $59 million for 2025.

The Global Fund also considers Ukraine’s financial support from 2024 to 2026 – $157 million.
