On January 19, at the parliament's request, the president of Finland, Sauli Niinisto, approved the 12th delivery of weapons to Ukraine. The package is being prepared taking into account the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and will cost about €400 million.
"Ukraine continues to need support in defending its territory, and the current package of defence materiel is clearly the largest one to date. Finland supplies heavy artillery and munitions to Ukraine," the minister of defence Mikko Savola.
This is the largest arms supply from Finland since the previous 11 together cost €590 million. Replacement and logistics issues will be discussed today as part of the meeting. Each supply, especially this one, is carried out thanks to the support of Sweden, which ensures Finland's security while providing Ukraine with defence equipment. Today, at the site of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group in Ramstein, the defence ministers of the two states will sign a Statement of Intent on supporting Ukraine.
"The joint support to Ukraine is a sign of deep mutual trust and increasingly close defence cooperation between Finland and Sweden," the MoD of Finland.
The MoDs of Sweden and Finland have checked the 12th aid package and are firmly convinced that its transfer is not a threat to each country's national security.
