Avdiivka is a small town in the Donetsk region, which is under constant Russian bombardment. Even before January 11, a little girl named Elya lived in this town with her grandparents. Her father died, and her mother is working in another country.
Volunteer Vlad Makhovsky, who tried to evacuate the girl to a safe area, said that the girl was barely 6 years old. Grandparents hid the baby from the war in the basement, but the child did not survive the war. On January 11, the girl's arms and legs began to go numb, and after a couple of hours, Elya died of a heart attack.
"She was 6 years old... The first time I saw her in the basement, where she was with her grandparents, her words, there in the basement, were "I'm scared." I offered her guardians — grandparents to evacuate, but she did not want to..." Vlad Makhovsky.
So far, there is no legal mechanism in Ukraine that would oblige parents and guardians to evacuate minor children and war zones. Officials even considered the possibility of depriving the parent' rights of those who turn out to take children out of burning settlements. However, so far, the Russian war and parents' negligence leads to injuries and deaths.
On November 13, an 11-year-old boy died of a heart attack in Mykolaiv. A rocket hit his house, the boy was taken out from under the rubble for 6 hours. In the hospital, his little heart could not stand it and stopped.
