On April 26, 1986, the biggest man-made disaster of the century struck — the tragedy at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. The small towns of Chornobyl and Pripyat in the Kyiv region have become a monument to atomic horror. Which again threatens us, as Russian troops have occupied another nuclear plant, Zaporizhzhia, and turned it into a military base.
"On the anniversary of the Chornobyl tragedy, I had a phone call with IAEA director Rafael Grossi. I stressed that only the return of Ukraine's full control over ZNPP will protect the world from a new disaster. I also thanked for the IAEA's special program on medical support of Ukrainian nuclear workers," Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Ukraine, the UN and the IAEA jointly carry out activities to save humanity from the second Chornobyl. However, so far, only the fact that the ZNPP has not been blown up can be called a success.
