During the briefing, Bonnie Jenkins, US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, announced the intention of the United States to seek demilitarization around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The Russian occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP will lead to consequences not only for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe.
"Creating a demilitarized zone around the nuclear plant is what we keep pushing for," Bonnie Jenkins.
According to Jenkins, the visit of the IAEA delegation to the territory of the NPP is necessary and should take place as soon as possible. At the same time, the deputy secretary stressed that by its actions at the nuclear power plant, Russia is directly blackmailing the world, thus demanding to come to terms with its criminal goal — "the dismantling of Ukraine as a geopolitical unit."
"Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state. We cannot accept such a fate for Ukraine or any other sovereign state," Bonnie Jenkins.
We remind you that today at 9 am the automatic protective system went off at the nuclear power plant. The nuclear power plant could not withstand Russian shelling and stopped for the first time in its history.
