The Russian Federation has been using dangerous weapons since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. The aggressor army uses phosphorus and cluster bombs, anti-personnel mines, grenades, small explosives, and tripwires. Some of these weapons are dangerous to humans long after the war has ended.
Due to the constant threat of explosions, Ukraine created a training program Security center. As part of the program, Ukrainian children and their parents are trained in mine safety. This is very important, as the threat will remain long after the war is over.
The minister of internal affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi reports that, as a result of the full-scale invasion of the territory of Ukraine by the Russian army, approximately 300.000 square kilometers are mined and contaminated with unexploded ordnance. At the same time, Ukrainian pyrotechnics have already cleared 30 km². This area was destroyed by 130 thousand. Ammunition, including almost 2 thousand air bombs.
The defense minister noted that if Russia’s offensive does not move to new territories, it will take from 5 to 7 years to eliminate the consequences. In the worst-case scenario, clearance will take about 10 years.
It is worth noting that the occupiers sneakily hide bombs. Because of this, explosions of agricultural machinery and people are frequent in liberated territories. In early summer, three civilians of the Kherson region died from a Russian mine planted on a local beach.
