On 21 July, the Ministry of foreign affairs of Norway reported that the country is joining the anti-Russian sanctions. Norway has already supported the 7 sets of sanctions, which the European Union adopted on 21 July.
The state's government in Northern Europe supported the ban on the import of luxury goods (gold and jewellery) from the aggressor country, blocking the European assets of the Russian financial institution Sberbank. Norway has also adopted a sanctions list of 54 individuals and 10 entities of the Russian Federation. Norway also supported the EU's pre-emptive sanctions packages, with some exceptions. Norway is not yet ready to accept the restrictions associated with Russia and the fishing industry. They still allow Russian fishing vessels to enter Norwegian ports.
"The sanctions are a necessary response to Russia's brutal and unprovoked attack on Ukraine," said Norwegian foreign minister Anniken Huitfeld.
It should be noted that Norway, as well as other countries, has not yet imposed a ban on Russian gas. Since Russia brings the greatest revenues to the aggressor country.
Nevertheless, Norway approves the ban on the import of oil from Russia by sea. It will come into effect on December 5, 2022, according to the 6 package of sanctions. European oil imports from Russia are expected to fall by about 90%.
