On September 8, the G7 summit at the level of heads of parliament started in Japan. The ambassador of Ukraine to Japan, Sergiy Korsunsky, reported on a unique event: the head of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, had an audience with His Majesty the Emperor of Japan Naruhito. This is the first meeting between Ukrainian politicians and representatives of the Japanese royal family in the history of relations between our countries.
The press service of the Ukrainian parliament reports that on the same day, Stefanchuk held talks with the speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, Hiroyuki Hosoda. The topic of the negotiations was the war in Ukraine and the creation of new communication and cooperation links between our states' parliaments. Ruslan Stefanchuk informed Hiroyuki Hosoda about the Russian terrorist attack in Konstantinovka and conveyed the resolution of the Ukrainian parliament on Ukraine's recognition of the Kuril islands as Japanese territory.
"Ukraine highly appreciates the consistent position of the Parliament and the Government of Japan aimed at protecting our state's sovereignty and territorial integrity," Ruslan Stefanchuk.
In turn, Mr Hosoda confirmed Japan's continued support for the Ukrainian side.
"Together with our NATO partners, we have supported and will continue to support Ukraine at all levels, maintaining our valuable friendly partnerships," Hiroyuki Hosoda.
