Ukraine Recognised the Kuril Islands a Territory of Japan

Zelenskyy signed a decree confirming that Ukraine recognises the islands as the territory of Japan, occupied by the RF

On October 7, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree that addressed the issue of Japan, Russia, and the Kuril islands. The president of Ukraine said that the northern part of Japan was occupied. He believes that the islands of Shikotan, Kunashir, and Iturup, as well as the archipelago of Habomai, are occupied by the country's aggressor — Russia.

According to the document, "Ukraine reaffirms its respect for Japan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, including its northern territories, which continue to be occupied by the Russian Federation". The head of the country that took the blow of the aggressor called for the world to recognize not only the occupation of Ukraine but also by other States. Russia has been seizing foreign lands for decades and remains unpunished."

Ukraine will now change diplomatic relations with Japan and calls on other countries and international organizations to do so.

"The UN Charter and the entire body of treaties and conventions on which the international legal order is based will work only when the occupiers lose, and the world's peoples are protected from any occupation. Through this war against Ukraine, against international law and order, against our people, Russia has put itself in a situation where it is only a matter of time — the real liberation of everything that was once seized and under the control of the Kremlin. Russia will use its example to show all potential world aggressors that an aggressive terrorist war in our time is the way to weaken and inevitably destroy the one who starts such a war. The aggressor must lose. It will. So that such wars will not be repeated and peace will be truly lasting. Nothing can remain for the invaders," the president said.
