On December 16, a delegation from Ukraine arrived in Vienna to meet with Austrian VC/federal minister Werner Kogler. During the talks, Minister Kogler announced the transfer of €5 million to the donor Fund for Support of Ukraine, established under the secretariat of the Energy community of Austria. The funds will be used to purchase equipment to repair and support Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
The parties' representatives agreed that given the Russian nuclear terrorism, the European states need to unite around Ukraine. Since March 9, the Russian army has been using the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant as a military base and a trophy for blackmail. Several times, due to Russian shelling, the station was completely shutdowned.
"Each day of the occupation of the ZNPP is a step towards a catastrophe of the Fukushima level. The entire civilized world must unite to repulse nuclear terrorism," said deputy minister of energy of Ukraine Yaroslav Demchenkov.
Also, representatives of the delegations discussed the issue of restoring Ukraine after the end of the war and opportunities for Austrian business in this vein. Werner Kogler emphasized that for an Austrian businessman, post-war Ukraine will be attracted to its renewable energy sectors (wind generation and bioenergy). There are many empty gas storage facilities in Ukraine (which were left after the Soviet government pumped out all of Ukraine's natural gas), which will also be used by foreign investors. And, of course, Ukrainian hydrogen is the best alternative to obsolete carbon energy carriers.
