On October 22, the parliament of Ukraine passed for the adoption of a bill necessary to create a legislative basis for the development of the biomethane market in the country.
“The purpose of the bill is to create a legislative basis for the development of the biomethane market in Ukraine, the establishment of its exports to EU countries and the replacement of natural gas in the production of electricity and heat. Adoption of the draft law will provide an opportunity to verify biomethane, provide guarantees of origin for a certain amount of biomethane supplied to the gas transmission system and export it through the use of the biomethane register,” the government portal of Ukraine reports.
According to experts, the project is important for Ukraine's energy and environmental security, as it is gradually moving towards creating clean and renewable energy. Every year the number of green projects in the country grows, including biogas plants across the country.
It is estimated that today Ukraine can produce up to 9.5 billion cubic meters of gas from agricultural waste.
