Already 5 years ago, the export of Ukrainian snails to the European Union was 380 tons. Now, this number has increased by several tens of tons. Some farms in Ukraine even produce snail caviar.
As farm owners point out, it is not difficult to build such a business in the country. First of all, there is no need for large properties at the beginning of the business journey. But need an investment — about $10-15.000. Most often in Ukraine, there are grape producers or ordinary garden snails. Starting a business is advised from 10.000 to 15.000 snails. Some farms breed Mediterranean types.
Common snails are suitable only for use in culinary. Mediterranean kind of snails opens up many different directions of business. They can be used to make mucus for cosmetics and therapeutic procedures. Snails also can lay caviar and are used as meat.
In Ukraine, they build farms like Polish and Italian factories. Polish technology and equipment are used for mucus secretion. But freezing and refrigeration equipment are often custom-made by Ukrainian companies.
The size of the snail farm in Ukraine can take 1 hectare. In this area, about 20 tons of snail can be grown.
Of course, in addition to buying equipment and gastric, you have to take care of the legality of the business. For that, a businessman needs to register a business.
