Reuters agency reports that the countries have signed a contract to buy Aster missiles. The value of the transaction reaches up to €2 billion. The number of missiles is 700. They are planned to be transferred to Ukraine to strengthen air defence.
Aster is used in the SAMP/T anti-aircraft missile system, which also may be transferred to Ukraine as Franco-Italian military aid. Earlier, it was reported that the countries had almost agreed to transfer anti-aircraft systems to help to create a dome over Ukraine during Russian terrorist attacks.
The missiles and launch systems are created by the temporary association of independent enterprises Eurosam. The system is capable of controlling several dozen targets at once. In addition, the anti-aircraft missile system can intercept 10 missiles, including ballistic.
The transfer of such European weapons will strengthen Ukraine’s defence capability in the war with Russia. In addition, the Ukrainian army will be able to protect civilians and cities that are far from the front line but are killed daily by Russian missiles.
