Historic Opening in Dnipro
Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky has officially opened a Czech diplomatic mission in the city of Dnipro during his visit to Ukraine from August 11–13. This marks the first diplomatic presence of any foreign country in eastern Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The mission will operate under the authority of the Czech Embassy in Kyiv and is intended to strengthen direct engagement with the region.
Defying Kremlin Pressure
In a post on the social network X, Lipavsky emphasized his country’s determination:
“The Czech Republic is not afraid of Putin. Today I officially opened our diplomatic mission in Dnipro, which is managed by our embassy in Kyiv. We are the first country with a diplomatic presence in eastern Ukraine.”
This move signals Prague’s commitment to supporting Ukraine both diplomatically and symbolically in the face of Russian aggression.
Context of the Visit
Lipavsky’s three-day visit to Ukraine included meetings with Ukrainian officials to discuss military aid, reconstruction efforts, and cooperation in security and humanitarian fields. The establishment of the Dnipro mission is seen as part of broader European efforts to maintain a direct presence in strategically important regions of Ukraine.
