Deepening the Energy Partnership Between Ukraine and Germany

The states intend to strengthen cooperation in the field of decarbonization and implement the "Low carbon Ukraine" project

On January 27, Jürgen Kainghorst, a member of the German Ministry for the environment, nature conservation, and nuclear safety, and Yaroslav Demchenkov, deputy minister of energy of Ukraine. Kainghorst said that Germany is ready to share its experience in the field of alternative energy with Ukraine, help with the implementation of several projects and attract investors.

“It is important for the Ministry of energy to accelerate the energy transition and achieve progress in the decarbonization of energy within 10-15 years. We have already launched projects that will help reduce carbon emissions, and we really appreciate the support from the German government in the implementation of such projects and look forward to effective cooperation,” Demchenkov emphasized.

One of the tools for the development of energy from renewable sources, Jürgen Kainghorst, considers the wise distribution of grants and subsidies.

"The main problem is large-scale subsidies for traditional energy sources, which artificially lower energy prices from them. This complicates the emergence of "green" energy on the market, for which there are no such grants. Therefore, we believe that the right way is to reduce grants for traditional energy on the one hand, and on the other — to establish temporary subsidies for energy from renewable sources," Jürgen Kainghorst.
