Deepfake From Russian Hackers Became Deepfail Again

With the help of deepfake technology, the Russians tried to impersonate the PM of Ukraine and communicate with the director of "Baykar Defense"

The Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine reports that the Russians tried to impersonate the prime minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and communicate with the director of Baykar Defense Haluk Bayraktar. Like the previous time, when "hackers" pretended to be Zelenskyy, it again used deepfake technology.

"The Russians tried to contact one of the founders of the Baykar Defence company, which produces the famous Bayraktar drones, Haluk Bayraktar. The conversation was conducted on behalf of Ukrainian prime minister Denys Shmyhal, whose video image was actually created using deepfake technology. However, instead of the expected conversation with Mr Khaliuk, the Russians were "lucky" to talk with the no less fake "secretary of the Baykar company," MDIU.

According to the MDIU, the poor preparedness of the Russian intruders, as they exposed themselves several times during an appeal to the "Baykar' secretary." The purpose of this step on the part of the Russians was to discredit relations between Ukraine and the company, which took an absolutely pro-Ukrainian position, and Haluk Bayraktar himself, who said that he would not cooperate with the Russian army for any money.

We remind you that earlier, the Russians made several calls to the mayors of other European states, using deepfake posing as the mayor of Kyiv, Vitalii Klitschko.
