Denied Accreditation for Cooperation With Russia

Diplomatic relations with Iran deteriorated due to deception and arms supply to Russia

Ukraine could have been happy about the successful downing of a modern drone last week if it had not revealed a terrible truth. The Russian uncrewed aerial vehicle belongs to Iranian production. Ukraine notes that Tehran has affirmed its lack of support for Putin's regime but gave it weapons for war.

This dualism in politics had negative consequences — Kyiv deprived the Iranian ambassador of accreditation and reduced the number of accredited personnel in that country's embassy.

The initiator was Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The president of Ukraine called on the Parliament to react immediately to Iran's use of unmanned aerial vehicles. Therefore, on 23 September, 10 days after the incident, Iran's charge d'affaires ad interim was summoned to Ukraine's Ministry of foreign affairs. The Ministry of foreign affairs of Ukraine reported that the supply of Iranian weapons to the aggressor country for its further use against the Ukrainian civilian population and the defence forces contradicts the publicly declared high leadership of Iran's "positions of neutrality, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine".

On September 24, the Iranian foreign Ministry made a public statement. They said they regretted the deterioration of diplomatic relations due to military supplies.
