The initiative also includes financial support for the operational deployment of Ukraine’s F-16 fighter jets.
“One of Ukraine’s most pressing needs right now is the ability to defend itself against Russian air strikes,” Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said. “That’s why we’re prioritizing additional support for air defense. The package also includes funding to bolster Ukraine’s combat aviation potential, an area where Denmark has taken on a unique role, both by donating F-16 fighters and training personnel.”
In cooperation with Sweden, Denmark will provide additional CV90 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. Copenhagen will also send more personnel to support NATO’s expanded training mission and increase its contribution of personnel to the EU’s military support mission for Ukraine.
“Russia is sparing no resources in its illegal war. This is evident from attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, intended to pressure Ukrainian civilians during the cold winter months,” Poulsen noted. “Such inhumane actions make it even more vital that Europe and Denmark continue supporting Ukraine, particularly in strengthening its air defense. We must ensure Ukraine is in the best possible position.”
The total cost of this aid package is 2.1 billion kroner, financed through reallocations under Denmark’s Ukraine Fund for 2024 and reimbursements from the European Peace Facility.
