€1 Billion Loan for Ukraine

European Bank for reconstruction and development provided €1 billion in financing

In 2021, Ukraine got €1 billion funding from EBRD. This amount is stated to be the second greatest financial support program of the bank after Turkey. A significant amount was received by Ukraine in 2021 as well. It was arranged as an investment and assistance for core economic reforms.

The investment levels received in the previous three years amounted to €3 billion in total. However, finances given for thirty countries in 2021 amounted to €10.4 billion as stated on the official website.

Paying attention to the information that the bank aims at becoming a green bank by 2025, we should point out that 45% of its funding in Ukraine was forward to supplying both greater steadiness and energy and resource efficiency. Ongoing projects are aimed at the advancement of the heating system in Kyiv and the €50 million loan for the city’s rolling stock of the metro restoration and maintenance of the changing individual transport to an advanced and environmentally friendly community one.

The Bank also helped to get a grant of €5.5 million to supplement the previous loan of €25 million aimed at raising the energy efficiency of about 100 public buildings in the Dnipro.

It is also mentioned that the previous year Dnipro and Kharkiv joined the EBRD Green Cities program, which envisages investments in environmental technologies and their application in municipal infrastructure.

Earlier, Kyiv, Lviv, Mariupol, Khmelnytsky, and Kryvyi Rih joined this initiative. The bank says that Ukraine has more cities that participate in the program than any other economy in which EBRD invests.
