Ukraine has launched the EU4Statistics Ukraine program, a flagship initiative designed to modernize the country’s official statistics system and bring it closer to European Union standards. The project is supported by the EU, Sweden and Estonia.
The program is planned for three and a half years and has a total budget of 7.1 million euros. Its goal is to strengthen the State Statistics Service and improve the way Ukraine collects, analyzes and publishes reliable public data.
Why statistics matter for recovery
Accurate statistics are not a technical luxury. They are necessary for evidence-based policy, monitoring reforms, negotiating EU accession and planning reconstruction. Without reliable data, public spending, investment decisions and regional development programs become less precise.
Sweden will focus on modern data collection technologies, quality and accessibility of statistics, and training for Ukrainian specialists. Estonia will support organizational strengthening, cooperation with data providers and adaptation of Ukrainian statistical legislation to European requirements.
The reform also has a business dimension. Better official data helps investors assess markets, understand regional trends and compare Ukraine with European economies. For Ukraine’s recovery, trusted numbers are part of the infrastructure that supports planning, funding and accountability.
