Expansion of Ukrainian Dairy Exports to Indonesia

Ukraine is set to broaden its dairy export market, with Indonesia becoming a new target

This development was discussed during a meeting between the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine (SMPU), First Deputy Chairman of the State Production and Consumer Service Oleg Osian, and the Indonesian Ambassador to Ukraine, Arif Muhammed Balasama.

Key Points from the Meeting:

  • Objective:

    • The primary focus was on opening the Indonesian market for Ukrainian dairy products.
    • Both sides expressed strong interest in strengthening trade relations, particularly in the dairy sector.
  • Support from Indonesia:

    • Ambassador Balasama showed support for the initiative and emphasized the importance of fostering closer ties between the Ukrainian and Indonesian food safety and consumer protection agencies.
  • Strategic Importance:

    • The executive director of the SMPU, Arsen Didur, highlighted the significance of increasing economic activity in global south countries, noting that mutual business interests strengthen international friendships.

Current Status of Ukrainian Dairy Exports:

  • EU Market Access:

    • Currently, 24 Ukrainian dairy companies that are members of the SMPU have already gained approval to export their products to the European Union.
  • Production Figures:

    • In July 2024, Ukrainian farms produced 681.2 thousand tons of raw milk, marking a 3% decrease from June and a 7% decrease from July 2023.
    • Between January and July 2024, total milk production amounted to 4.225 million tons, down 3% from the same period in 2023.
    • The share of enterprises in milk production stands at 35%, with households contributing 65%.
  • Regional Growth:

    • Notable increases in raw milk production were observed in the Mykolaiv region (+14%), Ternopil region (+12%), Rivne region (+10%), and Khmelnytskyi region (+9%).

This potential expansion into the Indonesian market represents a significant opportunity for Ukrainian dairy producers, further diversifying their export destinations and reinforcing Ukraine's role as a key player in the global dairy industry.
