European builders keep Ukraine’s reconstruction on the industry agenda

FIEC discussions focused on EU integration, housing, digital permits and decarbonization

Ukraine’s reconstruction and integration into European construction standards remained a major topic at the General Assembly of the European Construction Industry Federation in Paris. Representatives of the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine joined discussions on affordable housing, digital permitting, decarbonization, investment and the future role of contractors in rebuilding.

The meeting also confirmed the importance of FIEC’s Task Force Ukraine. European partners reviewed the conditions in which Ukrainian businesses operate, including the consequences of attacks on infrastructure and offices, and stressed that reconstruction should follow European procurement, quality and safety standards.

From solidarity to systems

The agenda shows that Ukraine’s recovery is no longer treated only as emergency repair. It is becoming a long-term industrial and regulatory project. Digital permits, transparent procurement, professional education and harmonization with EU standards are central to making reconstruction investable.

The Polish employers’ construction union also joined FIEC, which may strengthen coordination around Ukraine because Poland remains a key logistics and economic hub for support and future rebuilding.

For Ukrainian companies, access to European programs and grants is already becoming part of the sector’s modernization. The next stage will be turning this cooperation into predictable rules, financing channels and practical projects on the ground.
