Speaking after an informal summit of European leaders in Paris, Niinisto, quoted by "European Truth" and Finnish broadcaster Yle, highlighted Finland's ongoing support through the provision of 22 aid packages to Ukraine, with assurances of continued assistance.
The President emphasized the effectiveness of the Paris meeting in consolidating support for Ukraine, particularly in terms of military aid. Niinisto pointed out the unanimous agreement among European leaders on the need for prompt and decisive action, akin to the early stages of 2022. The focus of aid, he noted, would primarily be on ammunition and air defense equipment, underscoring the critical need for such support.
With the presidential transition set for March 1, Alexander Stubb, the newly elected President of Finland, is poised to take the helm from Niinisto. Stubb has firmly stated that political relations with Russia cannot be considered until the cessation of the conflict in Ukraine, indicating a continuation of Finland's strong stance in support of Kyiv amidst the ongoing war.
