Fire Point Expands Arsenal: New Ballistic Missiles and Air Defense Systems

Ukrainian defense manufacturer Fire Point, known for developing the Flamingo long-range cruise missile, has announced the development of new ballistic missiles and air defense systems

The company unveiled technical details at the MSPO international defense exhibition in Poland, confirming its ambition to expand Ukraine’s strategic strike and air defense capabilities.

New Ballistic Missile Line

FP-7 Tactical Ballistic Missile

  • Range: up to 200 km

  • Max speed: 1,500 m/s

  • Accuracy (CEP): 14 meters

  • Warhead: 150 kg

  • Flight time: up to 250 seconds

  • Launch platform: mobile ground system

➡️ Designed for rapid strikes on medium-range targets, FP-7 offers Ukraine a cost-efficient weapon for frontline and operational depth strikes.

FP-9 Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile

  • Range: up to 855 km

  • Max speed: 2,200 m/s

  • Altitude: up to 70 km

  • Warhead: 800 kg

  • Accuracy (CEP): 20 meters

➡️ FP-9 is intended for deep rear strikes, targeting command centers, logistics hubs, and critical infrastructure far beyond the front line.

Expansion into Air and Drone Warfare

Alongside ballistic systems, Fire Point introduced the FP-2 strike drone:

  • Range: 200 km (reduced from the 1,400 km FP-1 long-range drone)

  • Warhead: 105 kg

  • Modes: autonomous (for static targets) and manual radio control (for moving targets)

➡️ The FP-2 complements Ukraine’s drone fleet by focusing on frontline and tactical missions, while the Flamingo cruise missile covers long-range strikes up to 3,000 km.

Flamingo Cruise Missile – Ukraine’s Strategic Project

Fire Point’s flagship Flamingo cruise missile (range: 3,000 km) is scheduled for serial production in late 2025 – early 2026. Industry analysts suggest it may be linked to the FP-5 model of UAE-based Milanion Group, showcased in February 2025.

International Cooperation

  • In December 2025, Fire Point’s spin-off FPRT will begin production of solid rocket fuel in Denmark, marking Ukraine’s first export of defense technology for overseas manufacturing.

  • Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Canada, and Iceland have already pledged €1.3 billion in 2025 for Ukrainian-made artillery, drones, and missiles, with €830 million sourced from frozen Russian assets.

Challenges and Oversight

Ukraine’s anti-corruption bureau (NABU) is currently investigating possible overpricing in Fire Point’s drone contracts. The outcome will be crucial for ensuring transparency in Ukraine’s rapidly expanding defense-industrial sector.

Strategic Takeaway for Investors and Allies

  • Fire Point is positioning itself as a leading Ukrainian defense integrator, capable of producing ballistic, cruise, and drone strike systems.

  • By combining Ukrainian battlefield-driven R&D with international partnerships (notably Denmark), the company demonstrates scalability for NATO-standard integration.

  • For foreign partners, this is a first-mover opportunity in Ukraine’s defense-tech market, which is now transitioning from emergency wartime production to long-term industrial capacity.
