First Batch of U.S. Weapons Under New Law May Arrive in Ukraine by April, Says Ukrainian Ambassador

Ukrainian Ambassador to the USA, Oksana Markarova, indicated that the first package of American weapons under the new aid law could reach Ukraine as early as April

During discussions, Markarova expressed optimism about the swift passage of the aid legislation, which is expected to be signed into effect by President Joe Biden immediately.

"The law enters into force immediately, and the authority to allocate weapons to Ukraine comes immediately," Markarova stated, emphasizing the proactive efforts of both Ukraine and the USA in preparing these aid packages even prior to the formal extension of powers. "Ukraine and the USA are actively working on these packages, without stopping even when there were no such powers. Therefore, I think it will be very fast," she added.

When asked for specifics, Markarova mentioned, "We will not rule out even April," highlighting the potential for an expedited delivery.

This announcement follows the recent vote by the US House of Representatives in favor of a draft law on foreign aid to Ukraine on April 20. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has indicated that the Senate will vote on the bill on Tuesday, April 23. Additionally, Democrat Bill Keating, a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the US House of Representatives, during a visit to Kyiv, remarked that a new package of military aid will arrive "sooner than anyone thinks possible" following Congressional approval.

Reports suggest that the U.S. is preparing a significantly large military aid package for Kyiv, underscoring the ongoing support and commitment of the United States to assist Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict.
