A series of diplomatic talks between the presidents of the states was supposed to take place today. In particular, the president of Switzerland arrived in Kyiv, and a visit by Frank-Walter Steinmeier was also planned. According to Bild, the German Ministries of foreign and internal affairs and the German security authorities advised the president to refrain from visiting Kyiv, which has been under constant fire and air danger in recent weeks.
According to the German tabloid, negotiations about Steinmeier's visit lasted several weeks, but now, due to "security opinions", the visit has either been cancelled altogether or postponed. The media called the president's decision "politically explosive."
In turn, the new ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, Oleksii Makeev said that "they are closely and confidentially planning the visit of the federal president to Ukraine, which is important for both sides," and instead of a personal meeting, the presidents will hold online negotiations.
We remind you that in the spring, the federal president of Germany planned to arrive in Kyiv, but the meeting did not take place at the initiative of Ukraine. According to president Zelensky, that incident has already been settled, the parties have discussed and smoothed all the corners and are ready for a new stage in relations between our states.
