According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Joachim Gauck supported the transfer of weapons to Ukraine to fight Russia.
"Without the allies' weapons in the world war, Europe would have been under nazi rule," Joachim Gauck.
"If they tell us: we want to fight for our freedom, we even risk our lives, then it is not for us to explain to them from a safe place what is right. That would be callous and very arrogant," continued the ex-president of Germany.
At the same time, unlike the enlightened Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Joachim Gauck still believes in dialogue with Putin.
"Responsible politicians should also talk to dictators. We should never do without diplomacy. However, it is important to negotiate from a position of strength. This also proved right during the Cold War," summed up Gauck.
