Germany Transfers IRIS-T SLS Short-Range Air Defense System to Ukraine

The German government has confirmed the transfer of the IRIS-T SLS air defense system and additional military aid to Ukraine, marking a significant boost in Ukraine’s defense capabilities

Germany has updated its list of military aid provided to Ukraine, announcing the delivery of the short-range IRIS-T SLS air defense system. This is part of the latest batch of military support aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense against ongoing threats.

According to data published on the official website of the German government, the recent aid package includes:

  • IRIS-T SLS air defense system
  • 14,000 rounds of 155-mm ammunition
  • 10 surface drones
  • 26 VECTOR reconnaissance drones with spare parts
  • Equipment for disposing of explosive objects
  • 6 highly mobile engineering excavators
  • Armored repair and evacuation vehicle Bergepanzer 2 with spare parts
  • 55,000 first-aid kits
  • 700 MK 556 assault rifles
  • 10 high-precision HLR 338 rifles with ammunition
  • 50 CR 308 rifles

This transfer comes amid concerns over Germany's budget planning, which reportedly does not include additional funds for new military aid to Ukraine. Despite these reports, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has clarified that the information is incorrect and emphasized the importance of continued support.

The IRIS-T SLS system, known for its effectiveness in short-range air defense, will provide Ukraine with enhanced protection against aerial threats, contributing to the ongoing efforts to secure the nation's airspace.

The Ukrainian government and military officials have expressed their gratitude for Germany's continued support, highlighting the critical role of such aid in Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression.
