Great Britain Signs £300 Million Contract for Artillery Shells for Ukraine

The British Ministry of Defense has announced a £300 million contract for the purchase of 152-mm shells for Ukraine, as confirmed by Defense Minister John Healy

The contract is expected to provide Ukraine with thousands of shells by the end of the year, enhancing the country’s ammunition supplies amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia.

This new contract, managed by the Ministry's Defense Equipment & Support unit, will deliver 120,000 new shells over the next 18 months. The initiative aims to stimulate industrial production across Europe and ensure stable supply chains, guaranteeing a consistent flow of vital ammunition to Ukraine.

Healy, during a recent visit to Ukraine where he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, reiterated the UK's commitment to accelerating military aid to Ukraine.

Quote from John Healy: "British military equipment continues to prove its invaluable importance to Ukraine's military efforts. The ongoing defense operation in Kursk underscores the critical importance of continued support. And today's milestone for the International Fund for Ukraine demonstrates the value of working with our allies to provide that support."

This effort is part of the UK's broader strategy of military aid through the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU). Previous IFU aid packages have included drones, mine-clearing equipment, spare parts for combat vehicles, and air defense systems.

The new investment in artillery shells comes as artillery continues to play a pivotal role in Ukraine’s defense efforts. Alongside this, countries such as Denmark, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Norway have increased their contributions to the IFU, focusing on drones and air defense systems to protect Ukraine’s civilians and infrastructure from ongoing Russian attacks. Other nations, including Australia, Iceland, New Zealand, and Sweden, are also supporting the IFU.
