On 14 December, the parliament of Ukraine voted for draft laws based on the recommendations of the European Commission. The MPs adopted all the documents necessary to start negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the European Union. The head of the Ukrainian parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk confirmed this information. He also recalled that these recommendations were received in the summer of 2022 when the EU granted Ukraine the candidate status for membership.
Since June 23, the day of receipt of recommendations, Ukraine has implemented all 5 points. They were reflected in the laws:
- Judicial reform with the appointment of members of the High council of justice — parliament was able to elect 2 candidates according to its quota;
- The Law on media — Ukraine adopted this draft law taking into account the recommendation of the European Commission on the harmonization of the audio-visual legislation of Ukraine with the European;
- Law on national minorities;
- The act on amending legislative acts to improve the procedure for the selection of candidates for the post of judge of the Constitutional court of Ukraine — such a reform of the constitutional framework leads to the appointment of judges on a competitive basis.
4 laws have also been adopted or partially amended to combat money laundering. Ukraine accepts all the requirements of Europe and has been moving to the EU for many years.
"It is safe to say that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (parliament — ed.) has fulfilled its part of the work and adopted all necessary system bills to implement the recommendations of the European Commission," said the head of the Ukrainian parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Now all Ukrainians are waiting for the start of negotiations with the European Union. Indeed, joining economic and political unification will be the result of a long struggle of the people for their destiny.
