Today Ukraine is actively working to improve the quality of agricultural land throughout the country. The results are especially noticeable in the Poltava region.
According to the deputy chairman of the Poltava regional state administration Yevhen Hrekov following a meeting on the development of irrigated agriculture: “The issue of irrigation is becoming especially important in the current weather conditions, so the regional leadership will provide comprehensive support for the development of irrigated agriculture.”
The developed program will allow agricultural producers interested in the development of irrigated agriculture, together with state and local authorities, to provide a new impetus to the development of land reclamation in the region.
As noted, the participants of the meeting inspected the main pumping station of the Gradizh irrigation system and visited the fields where modern sprinkler equipment works.
During the meeting, the main problems faced by water users and those who plan to use irrigation in their fields were identified.
“Among the most vulnerable problems are gaps in the legislative framework. A big problem is the connection of pumping stations to the electrical networks; the cost of such work often casts doubt on the very profitability of irrigation. The issues of relations between the state and agricultural enterprises on the maintenance of canals, networks, and pumping stations of state ownership were also raised. A number of technical issues related to both irrigation and its organization were also discussed,” the department adds.
