Hungary Strengthens Energy Cooperation With Russia and Belarus

Hungarian MFA and Belarus agree on joint use of Russian nuclear technologies

On April 13, minister of foreign affairs Peter Szijjarto received Belarusian foreign minister Sergei Aleinik in Budapest. The negotiations resulted in an agreement between the Hungarian company Paks 2 and the Ministry of energy of Belarus on the use of Russian nuclear technologies during the construction of nuclear power plants in Hungary and Belarus.

Szijarto noted that despite the expected criticism of this decision from the West, Belarus for Hungary is "a reliable and predictable transit partner of Hungary, which ensures uninterrupted oil supplies."

On April 11, Peter Szijjarto arrived in Moscow for talks with Rosatom and the deputy prime minister for energy on increasing the flow of gas, oil and nuclear fuel to Hungary. The minister called this decision important for energy security. We remind you that Rosatom employees are at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in the city of Energodar, Ukraine, and right now, they are switching the ZNPP capacities to the Russian energy system.
