Iceland Grants Ukraine $30 Million in Defense Assistance

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga recently engaged in discussions with Icelandic Foreign Minister Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir regarding military support, investments in weapons production, and humanitarian initiatives

During their joint press conference, Sybiga announced that Iceland has committed $30 million in defense assistance to Ukraine.

“The amount of assistance provided to Ukraine for defense needs stands at $30 million, which is a significant contribution relative to Iceland’s capabilities,” Sybiga stated. He added, “Today, we thoroughly discussed ways to further boost production, particularly by placing orders with Ukrainian manufacturers.”

In addition to defense aid, Sybiga expressed gratitude for Iceland’s support in the energy sector.

Icelandic Foreign Minister Gunnarsdottir affirmed Iceland’s ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine. She highlighted that the assistance also includes continued financing for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s humanitarian initiative, "Grain from Ukraine," which facilitates the supply of Ukrainian food to countries like Syria.

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Sybiga and Gunnarsdottir deliberated on increasing investments in Ukrainian weapons production. This conversation builds on the security agreement signed between Ukraine and Iceland in May 2024, reinforcing the strong bilateral relations and collaborative efforts in enhancing Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

About the Joint Press Conference: The joint press conference underscored the deepening cooperation between Ukraine and Iceland, focusing on comprehensive support that spans military aid, economic investments, and humanitarian efforts.
