Ukraine is testing a pilot project by Japanese corporation IKEE Group Ltd that uses demolition and destruction waste to produce materials for road construction and repair. The project was presented during a working meeting at the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.
The approach includes collecting debris such as concrete, brick and asphalt, sorting it, and recycling it into secondary raw material for road maintenance and rebuilding.
Deputy Minister Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi said reuse of demolition waste is a step toward a circular economy, combining environmental responsibility with practical infrastructure recovery solutions.
The parties also discussed waste management policy, investment barriers and mechanisms to support Japanese business in Ukraine.
IKEE plans to transfer technology for producing all‑weather road repair materials from recycled aggregates, commercialize related products, and help improve damaged road sections to strengthen logistics and speed up critical infrastructure recovery.
Under the JICA scheme, the company is testing the material on Ukrainian roads and running pilot production. The material can be applied in different weather, requires no complex preparation, and provides quick reopening with high load resistance.
