Inaugural Meeting of the Register of Damages from Russia’s Aggression Against Ukraine Held in The Hague

The first council meeting of the Register of Damages, aimed at documenting losses caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, was recently convened in The Hague

This meeting, as reported by the Ministry of Justice and covered by UNN, focused on establishing loss categories to enhance the Register's operational effectiveness. The Register is slated to start receiving applications in early 2024.

Iryna Mudra, the Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine who participated in the meeting, emphasized the importance of defining rules and procedures for loss categorization. She highlighted that without such categorization, the Register would not be able to function optimally.

On December 1, 2023, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers endorsed the Justice Ministry's proposals for developing software for the Register of Damages Caused by the Russian Federation's Aggression Against Ukraine. The government also agreed on the categories of damage and losses for approval by the registry board. Following these steps, the commission responsible for awarding payments and the organized operation of the Compensation Fund are expected to commence activities.
