On July 11, during his speech at the NATO summit in Vilnius, Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Store announced the expansion of the multi-year Nansen Support Program for Ukraine.
"Ukraine has an urgent need for more military support and equipment. Norway is therefore increasing its military support to Ukraine by kr2.5 billion to a total of kr10 billion for 2023," Jonas Gahr Store.
According to the terms of the program, Ukraine can count on kr75 billion within 5 years. In addition, the state has provided guarantees of kr15 billion to support the social and military sectors of Ukraine in 2023.
The minister informed journalists about the increase in investments in NATO's Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine: "Norway will provide kr300 million in funding in 2023, and a total of kr1.5 billion over a five-year period. This is a clear indication of our long-term support for Ukraine's reform efforts, and will help to bring Ukraine closer to the Alliance."
Norway is also responding to NATO's new regional needs and is increasing its investments in regional defence to at least 2% of GDP and, together with Germany, is strengthening the protection of underwater infrastructure in NATO's waters.
