With its help, women can help and support women who feel to be in trouble and are nearby, according to the clarifications of the Feminism Facebook group on the platform.
The mission of the company is to create a network of communities through which women can feel safer and secure going through their daily lives. SafeUP communities strive to increase women’s sense of security and to prevent cases of sexual and physical harassment and assault.
“Our goal is to make the world a safer place for you, me, your children, and every woman in the world,” commented the founders of the app.
It is available in the App Store and Google Play.
SafeUp tracks geolocation and shows a map of registered women nearby. In case of danger or discomfort, the user can press the "call" button. The call will be received by women guards who are closest. They can talk to the woman in danger, support her, call the police and come to the rescue themselves.
The application is completely free and available for women of all ages.
Only women who came of 18 years of age can become defenders.
There are three help options:
- conversation
- urgent help
- report location
The woman seeking help starts a video chat with the defender and the latter reports the danger to three defenders within a radius of 500 meters, so they can call the police.
To log in, you need to enter your data in the application, as well as confirm your identity by answering a few questions in video format.
There is also a special video training for defenders with a test on several questions, to teach them the proper reaction to potentially dangerous situations and ensure safety to those in need.
