Italy to Sign Agreement on the Reconstruction of Odesa with Ukraine and UNESCO

Italy has announced its plans to sign a significant agreement with Ukraine and UNESCO aimed at the reconstruction of Odesa, specifically focusing on the restoration of the Cathedral of the Savior and Transfiguration

This announcement was made by the Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani.

The agreement is scheduled for signing on May 15 in Rome. It follows a previous agreement signed in February between Italy and UNESCO, which allocated 500 million euros specifically for the restoration of the cathedral's roof, damaged during a Russian missile attack in July of the previous year.

Minister Tajani highlighted the commitment of Italy, currently presiding over the G7, to work towards a just peace and emphasized the ongoing priority of supporting Ukraine's energy system amidst the conflict.

The involvement of Italy in the reconstruction efforts was affirmed by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni, who expressed readiness to assist in the cathedral's restoration shortly after the attack on Odesa.
