1 week ago, Putin announced the mobilization of his citizens for their further participation in the attack on Ukraine. Some of these citizens may have dual citizenship (the second is American), but Russia may refuse to recognize them as dual citizens and also send them to war. The US embassy strongly recommends that such persons leave Russia in any way possible while commercial flights are still available and within open borders.
"If you wish to depart Russia, you should make independent arrangements as soon as possible," the embassy.
An even more urgent demand to leave Russia the embassy puts on the only US citizens. Such people are also required to travel to other countries, even under expired passport conditions. Special attention is paid to the instruction on "survival" in Russia, which clearly reflects the policy of the Kremlin regarding its own and foreign citizens.
"We remind US citizens that the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression are not guaranteed in Russia. Avoid all political or social protests, and do not photograph security personnel at these events. Russian authorities have arrested US citizens who have participated in demonstrations," the United States embassy in Russia.
Ukraine is safer now than Russia.
