On 7 of August, Jessica Chastain visited Kyiv and nearby towns, spoke with children injured during the war, and had a conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On 13 October, the actress attended Jimmy Kimmel's American evening show. Despite the fame of the actress, she touched on an important topic — the war in Ukraine.
The Oscar winner said she has friends from Ukraine from whom she received an invitation. The actress also said that she was worried about the Ukrainians from the first days of the war and wanted to help them.
Chastain made her way from the USA to Poland. Representatives of the president of Ukraine met the actress on the Polish-Ukrainian border and accompanied her.
"I went to Irpin and saw the destruction there, met with families. I visited a children's hospital. I met incredible people in Kyiv. It's hard to talk about it now because it's so sad what's happening now. I knew how hard it would be to see it, but I knew I had to go. When I met the kids at the hospital, my heart was breaking. There was a girl with her mother, and she needed new legs. It was destructive," said the artist about what she had seen in the Kyiv region.
Also, the American celebrity told about communication with the president of Ukraine. According to her, it was he who convinced her of the necessity and strength of such visits.
"Zelenskyy was very grateful. He said it was important that people talk more about it because they needed help. He said they were terrified of what would happen in the fall and winter if the power was cut. He said: "Please talk to people, talk to your friends". I think he's trying to make sure the world doesn't forget them," says Jessica Chastain.
