The visit of the Canadian delegation led by Justin Trudeau and Chrystia Freeland was planned under absolute silence. The Canadian media CBC reports that the PM's visit is timed to coincide with the counter-offensive of Ukraine, which so far has not been announced by anyone, but Western countries are confident in its start.
Trudeau's and Freeland's goals today are to meet with Zelenskyy to negotiate the damage caused by the Russian army's bombing of the Kakhovska hydroelectric power station.
So far, the guest delegation has gone to the memorial in memory of the heroes and laid flowers on the fallen in the war for Ukrainian freedom and national identity. While the PM and his deputy were on Sophia square, a funeral procession passed by: the coffin with the dead soldier, his family and colleagues, to the sound of bells, entered the Sophia golden-domed monastery for the funeral service.
"It was a stark reminder that this is a country at war," Murray Brewster, CBC News.
