Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, Rustem Umyerov, outlined the significant outcomes of the latest Contact Group meeting in the Ramstein format, which took place in Frankfurt am Main on September 6, 2024

Umyerov highlighted several key developments regarding military aid from Ukraine's partners and ongoing efforts to bolster the country's defense capabilities.

Military Aid from Allies

Umyerov detailed the support provided by key partners during the meeting:

  • United States: The U.S. announced a new $250 million military aid package, including M2 Bradley fighting vehicles and HIMARS missiles, which are critical to Ukraine's ongoing defense operations.

  • Canada: Canada is set to deliver a large batch of rocket engines and 1,300 warheads to boost Ukraine's air operations. The package also includes machine guns, pistols, military equipment, and 50 ambulances to meet battlefield medical needs. Additionally, Canada committed $389 million over five years for the training of Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel under the FLIT program for F-16 operations.

  • Great Britain: The U.K. will supply 650 light multi-purpose missiles (LMM) worth £162 million to strengthen Ukraine's air defense systems.

  • Netherlands: The Netherlands is providing air-to-air missiles and F-16 support materials valued at €80 million, which will significantly enhance Ukraine’s Air Force capabilities.

  • Sweden: Sweden has joined the demining coalition, pledging €5 million to support demining efforts through the Coalition Fund.

  • Spain: Spain committed to delivering a HAWK anti-aircraft missile system battery, which includes six launchers, further bolstering Ukraine’s air defense.

Maritime Defense Coalition

Umyerov announced the signing of the Regulation of the Maritime Capabilities Coalition (KMS), led by Great Britain and Norway. This coalition aims to provide long-term security support in the Black Sea, aligning with Ukraine’s "Maritime Security Strategy." Umyerov emphasized Ukraine’s success in driving Russian naval forces away from the Crimean Peninsula and its continued focus on "sea defense."

Joint Weapon Production

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry is engaged in active discussions with several countries on financing joint production of Ukrainian-made weapons, including missiles and drones. Umyerov noted that Ukraine's long-range drones have already demonstrated their effectiveness, drawing attention from international allies.

Conclusion

President Volodymyr Zelensky's personal participation in the Ramstein meeting emphasized the urgency of delivering military aid. These new commitments from Ukraine’s allies reflect strong international support for the country’s defense efforts and its ongoing fight against Russian aggression.
